The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has reacted to the arrest of a soldier captured in a viral video assaulting a pharmacy attendant and a female customer at Burma Camp, vowing to take stringent disciplinary action against him.
The video, circulated on social media on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, shows the soldier, identified as Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Williams Mensah, in a heated confrontation inside a pharmacy before striking both the attendant and a woman who tried to record the incident.
Following widespread public outrage, the Ghana Military Police apprehended Mensah at dawn on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The victims, according to GAF, have received medical attention and are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
In a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, the military condemned the assault, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the values of the Armed Forces.
“The Armed Forces assures the general public that it will not condone any acts of assault on civilians and will not shield any soldier engaged in such,” the statement read.
It added that internal disciplinary procedures will be followed, and appropriate sanctions will be applied once investigations are complete.
The incident has sparked renewed debate about military discipline and the need for strict enforcement of codes of conduct to maintain public trust in the Armed Forces.
