The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced the establishment of an Upstream Petroleum Legislative Review Committee, marking a significant step toward reforming Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector.
The committee will be co-chaired by Dr. Kwabena Donkor and Nana Boakye Asafu-Agjaye.
The committee is tasked with evaluating the current legal and operational framework to recommend improvements that will enhance the sector’s efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.
At the inauguration, Minister Jinapor highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring the petroleum industry operates with accountability and delivers maximum benefits to the nation.
The committee will examine existing policies, regulations, and practices to identify opportunities for reform.
“These reforms are aimed at attracting investment, maximizing economic benefits, and ensuring the long-term viability of the sector. The ongoing reforms within Ghana’s petroleum upstream sector must be structured to achieve a dual objective: maximizing benefits for the Ghanaian people while simultaneously fostering an environment that attracts significant and sustainable investments,” the Minister stated.
