A Sekondi Circuit Court has sentenced a 36-year-old Nigerian national, Stanley Afaku, to 10 years’ imprisonment over robbery incident at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
The incident occurred on February 23, 2025, when Afaku and his accomplice, Samuel Nickson, also known as Egya Acquah, launched a violent robbery attack on Nash Arthur, a security guard at the hospital.
Armed and dangerous, the robbers tied the guard with his own shirt, stole his phone, and broke into the outpatient department pharmacy, fleeing with a flat-screen television.
Following an intelligence-led operation, Afaku was arrested on June 4 at Esiama Bafana Ghetto.
He admitted to the crime and named Nickson as his partner in the attack. Nickson, who is currently facing separate robbery charges, was also apprehended and arraigned.
While Afaku pleaded guilty and received a 10-year sentence with a directive to be deported by the Ghana Immigration Service upon completion of his prison term, Nickson pleaded not guilty and has been remanded into police custody. He is scheduled to reappear in court on June 24, 2025.
The court, presided over by Her Honour Naa Amerley Akowuah, delivered the ruling on Monday, June 9, 2025, after Afaku pleaded guilty to robbery charges brought against him by the Western Regional Police Command.
The Western Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued efforts to clamp down on criminal activities and maintain law and order in the region.
