Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has disclosed that the Board of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has terminated 202 contracts valued at $227 million.
Speaking at a press briefing during the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Mr. Jinapor noted that the remaining 147 contracts are under thorough scrutiny and may be terminated based on the findings.
“We are determined to ensure that we clean up the sector,” he said.
He further noted that the Mahama-led government is spending 30% to 40% less than what was spent in 2024 by the previous Akufo-Addo administration in terms of procurement.
“We are achieving better results with value for money and ensuring that we adhere to strict procurement processes,” the Minister stressed.
He added that 347 supply contracts which failed to deliver goods in specific areas are up for review.
“The goods in these containers were not part of the materials locked up at the port, these are new containers coming up following procurements which were undertaken previously.”
The Minister also announced that the government has started installing 23,500 units of solar street lights.
“We have commenced the installation of 23,500 units of all-in-one solar street lights.”
