Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been officially declared Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North after the parliamentary rerun held on Friday, July 11, 2025, marking a historic first victory for the NDC in the constituency.
The presiding officer announced that Aubynn polled 34,090 votes, narrowly defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, who garnered 33,881 votes.
The 209-vote margin closes months of electoral uncertainty and hands the NDC a symbolic win in a seat traditionally dominated by the NPP.
The rerun was held in 19 polling stations to address outstanding collation and verification issues from the December 2024 general elections.
Results from 18 of the disputed 37 polling stations had already been certified, prompting the Electoral Commission to conduct fresh voting in the remaining stations to complete the process.
Although the NPP leadership had announced a boycott of the rerun, Nana Akua Afriyie chose to participate, citing the need to defend her mandate after an Accra High Court dismissed her injunction application.
With the declaration now complete, Ewurabena Aubynn becomes the first NDC candidate to win the Ablekuma North seat, signaling a significant shift in the political dynamics of the constituency.
