The Deputy Defence Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has clarified that the microlight aircraft that crashed in Tema Community 1 on Monday, March 16, 2026, was privately owned and not linked to the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Genfi addressed speculation following the fatal incident, saying, “We have received reports of a fatal crash involving a privately owned microlight aircraft at Tema Community 1. We wish to clarify that the aircraft is not owned by the Ghana Armed Forces. We pray for the souls of the departed and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the aircraft, registered 9G-ADV, was flying from Ho to Accra when it went down near the TMA Daycare, Site 18, in Tema Community 1. The last radio contact with the aircraft was recorded at 14:18 GMT, and the crash was reported at 14:59 GMT.
Firefighters from the Tema Metro Fire Station arrived within three minutes to carry out extrication operations at the heavily damaged crash site.
Both occupants, two men, were pronounced dead and their bodies handed over to the Police for investigation.
Regional commanders from the Fire Service and Police are coordinating emergency response efforts, and authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
