At least seven people have been confirmed dead following a deadly road crash at Komenda Asamasa on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway in the Central Region.
The accident happened on Monday evening, January 12, 2026, at about 7:25 p.m., when a Sprinter bus travelling from Komenda towards Takoradi collided head-on with a Man Diesel truck heading in the opposite direction.
The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13.
Firefighters from the Komenda Fire Station were dispatched to the scene, where they found the Sprinter bus had veered off the road into a nearby bush. Six victims were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the rescue team.
All six were pronounced dead on arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. A seventh victim, a woman who had been rushed to the hospital earlier, also died, raising the death toll to seven.
Among the deceased are three women, including a pregnant woman, one infant, and three men.
Eighteen other passengers sustained various injuries in the crash and are currently receiving medical care at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. They were rescued before the arrival of the GNFS personnel.
Preliminary accounts from eyewitnesses indicate that the truck reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle, resulting in the fatal collision with the oncoming bus.
Following the rescue operation, fire officers cleared debris from the road to restore traffic and prevent further accidents. The bodies of the deceased have since been conveyed to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
