Parliament is set to vet Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, the nominee for Chief Justice, today, Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Parliament House in Accra. The Appointments Committee will begin proceedings promptly at 11:00 am.
The vetting has sparked debate after the Minority called for its cancellation, citing ongoing court proceedings involving former Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo.
Speaking on Friday, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, alongside Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, dismissed the Minority’s objections, stating there is no constitutional or procedural reason to delay the process.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie will appear before the Committee to seek approval as the substantive head of Ghana’s judiciary.
However, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin reiterated that his members would not support vetting while court cases remain unresolved.
