Voters in Ayawaso East are set to choose a new parliamentary representative today, Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in a closely watched by-election.
More than 40,000 registered voters across the constituency are expected to cast their ballots following the vacancy created in Parliament.
Five aspirants successfully filed nominations before the February 11 deadline.
Leading the contest are Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Baba Ali Yusif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The other contenders include Ibrahim Iddrisu and three additional candidates representing smaller political parties and independent interests.
The Electoral Commission has indicated that all necessary arrangements have been completed, with polling stations opening early in the morning and security personnel deployed to maintain order.
The outcome of the vote is anticipated to influence the balance of political strength in the constituency, making the contest a key test for both the governing NDC and the opposition NPP.
