The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has categorically denied reports suggesting he attempted to influence the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal processes ahead of its upcoming National Delegates Conference.
In a statement released on Monday, July 14, 2025, the former President’s office described recent reports published by Otecfmghana and GhanaWeb as “completely false.”
The reports had alleged that Akufo-Addo sought to overturn the party’s decisions on early primaries or push for the postponement of the conference, which is scheduled for July 18–19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state emphatically that, these reports are completely false,” the statement read.
“President Akufo-Addo, who has been out of the jurisdiction for some time now has not made any such requests on the party either by a petition or any other means and he does not have any such intentions.”
The statement further asserted that those responsible for circulating the allegations are advancing a narrative that has “which has nothing to do with improving the fortunes of the New Patriotic Party(NPP).”
The former President, who is currently outside Ghana, is not expected to attend the conference but will reportedly deliver a goodwill message to delegates.
Party insiders have also confirmed that both the date of the conference and the timing of the presidential primaries in January 2026 were agreed upon in Akufo-Addo’s absence.
While the former President will not be physically present, his office reiterated his unwavering respect for the party’s democratic structures and processes.
The allegations of interference, according to the statement, are an attempt to sow discord ahead of a pivotal moment for the party.
