Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has presented medical equipment valued at $1.5 million to the Ga North Municipal Hospital in Ofankor.
The package, comprising more than 34 items including incubators, hospital beds, and laboratory machines, is aimed at addressing longstanding equipment shortages that have hampered service delivery at the facility.
The minister cautioned hospital management not to return to the Ministry or government for repairs or replacements, urging them to maintain the equipment properly.
“We are presenting to this particular hospital, and it is our hope that they will take good care of these equipment,” Mr. Akandoh said.
The donation follows Mr. Akandoh’s unannounced visit to the hospital on August 1, where he encountered long queues, frustrated patients, and absent managers.
Staff attributed the delays largely to broken-down machines, particularly in the laboratory, which forced many patients to wait hours without attention.
Commissioned in 2020, the Ga North Hospital was built to serve a fast-growing population but has struggled with inadequate resources, leading to frequent referrals to neighboring facilities.
The minister said the intervention is part of government’s broader effort to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide.
