Deputy Managing Director in charge of Operations at the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), Baba Jamal Konneh, led a delegation to represent the company at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) on behalf of Managing Director Dr. Wisdom Dogbey.

Speaking to stakeholders, Konneh highlighted the company’s commitment to strengthening Ghana-China trade relations and promoting Ghana’s premium cocoa in the Asian market.

He stressed that CMC’s work is central to expanding the country’s international cocoa footprint and supporting the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.

On Ghana’s cocoa industry, Konneh explained that the Cocoa Marketing Company operates under the Ghana Cocoa Board, an official government agency under the Ministry of Finance.

He said CMC is the board’s sole state-owned agent responsible for cultivation, processing, grading, transportation, marketing, and export of cocoa.

“As the second largest source of foreign exchange, Cocoa generates over 3 billion USD in annual revenue for Ghana. Sustaining the livelihood of more than 800,000 farm households, a global Ghana Cocoa is celebrated for its exceptional quality and distinct flavor” he said.

Konneh also highlighted cocoa’s economic impact, noting that the sector generates over $3 billion in foreign exchange annually and supports more than 800,000 farm households.

He emphasized the global recognition of Ghanaian cocoa for its quality and distinct flavor, positioning it as a key export for the country.

The delegation’s engagement with Genertec International, a major cocoa importer in China, reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between the two countries and underscored CMC’s commitment to delivering high-quality cocoa to international markets.
