A fisherman has broken down in tears following the reported death of more than 10,000 fish at the Hebron Prayer Camp fish farm, in an incident allegedly linked to sewage pollution from the Adepa landfill site.
The incident is reported to have caused significant losses at the fish farm, with the fisherman visibly distressed over the scale of the reported fish deaths.
Concerns have been raised about the possible impact of pollution from the landfill on nearby water bodies.
The Adepa landfill is reported to contaminate surrounding rivers, streams and groundwater through the seepage of potentially harmful leachate.
The reported incident has renewed concerns about the environmental and economic consequences of improper waste management, particularly for people whose livelihoods depend on fishing and other water-related activities.
However, the precise cause of the fish deaths has not been independently established, and further investigation would be needed to confirm whether sewage or leachate from the landfill was responsible.
The incident highlights the need for environmental monitoring and appropriate measures to protect nearby water bodies and the livelihoods of communities that depend on them.
