The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended Mr. Daniel Nortey from all media appearances and public engagements on behalf of the party following remarks he made during a televised discussion on allegations of sexual abuse against the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
The suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice, according to a statement issued by the party’s National Communication Bureau on Thursday October 22, 2026.
The party said it was displeased with Mr. Nortey’s comments, which it believes downplayed the seriousness of the allegations.
“The Communication Directorate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has noted with serious concern and distaste the remarks made by Mr. Daniel Nortey during a televised discussion on the allegations of sexual abuse against the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School,” the statement said.
The NDC reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on sexual abuse and all forms of sexual exploitation, particularly where the safety and welfare of children are concerned.
It condemned comments that trivialise such allegations, stressing that matters involving sexual abuse must be treated with the seriousness they deserve.
The party also acknowledged an unreserved apology from Mr. Nortey over his remarks but emphasised that public figures must exercise caution when commenting on sensitive issues.
“The Party acknowledges this apology but emphasizes the importance of responsible public commentary,” the statement added.
The Communication Directorate further cautioned against turning allegations of sexual abuse into partisan political debates, insisting that such matters must be handled with sensitivity and respect for due process.
Following the development, Mr. Nortey has been barred from representing the NDC in media discussions and public engagements until the suspension is lifted.
The party reiterated its commitment to protecting women and children, promoting accountability and ensuring that allegations of sexual abuse are handled in accordance with the law.
The NDC has not indicated when Mr. Nortey could be allowed to resume media appearances on its behalf.
