The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Jinapor, has participated as Special Guest of Honour at the signing ceremony of a partnership between the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) and Global Sphere for the second phase of Ghana’s Petroleum Hub Project.
The partnership marks a significant milestone in the country’s ambition to establish itself as a leading energy hub in West Africa.
The project is expected to support industrialisation, attract investment, create jobs and strengthen Ghana’s energy security.
The second phase of the project is scheduled for development over the next five years and will comprise a refinery with a processing capacity of 300,000 barrels per stream day.
It will also include two petrochemical plants, storage facilities with a combined capacity of four million cubic metres, and a multi-berth jetty.
The planned infrastructure is intended to expand Ghana’s petroleum processing and storage capacity and support the country’s broader energy sector development ambitions.
Dr Jinapor commended the stakeholders involved in the partnership for their commitment to advancing the project, describing the initiative as an important step towards realising Ghana’s ambition of becoming a major energy hub in the sub-region.
The partnership between PHDC and Global Sphere is expected to advance the second phase of the project, although further details on the implementation arrangements and financing were not provided in the announcement.
The Petroleum Hub Project forms part of Ghana’s broader ambition to develop energy infrastructure that can stimulate economic activity, attract private-sector participation and strengthen the country’s position in the regional energy market.
