The Patriotic Muslim Front (PMF) has thrown its support behind the appointment of the new Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, describing it as a step in the right direction.
In a press release dated October 18, 2026, the group said it was confident the appointee would bring competence, integrity, fairness and impartiality to the management of Ghana’s electoral processes.
The statement, signed by Haruna Mohammed on behalf of the PMF, said Ghana needed capable and honest individuals to oversee its elections and urged the public to respect the appointment.
The group also defended the appointee against criticism from what it described as partisan voices seeking to tarnish the reputation of a competent Ghanaian woman appointed to serve the country.
“As Muslims who believe in justice and fairness, we cannot sit silent while a few partisan voices try to tarnish a competent Ghanaian woman who has been duly appointed to serve her country,” the statement said.
The PMF further maintained that the appointment was made in accordance with the 1992 Constitution and should be respected by all Ghanaians.
It urged the new Deputy Chairperson to remain focused, firm and impartial in the discharge of her duties, while working to strengthen Ghana’s democracy.
The group also called on Ghanaians, particularly members of the Muslim community, to pray for and support the Electoral Commission to enable it to deliver credible elections.
The statement concluded with a prayer for Allah’s guidance for the appointee and blessings for Ghana
