Former MTN employee and Wesley Methodist Cathedral member Bright Gyan Koomson died by suicide, leaving behind a note in which he described his struggle with addiction, emotional distress and feelings of guilt.

The note, dated September 30, 2026, was found after his death. In it, Bright apologised to family members, friends and others he believed he had disappointed, while appealing for greater understanding of the challenges people may face behind an outwardly cheerful personality.

“This happy person you all knew was silently fighting addiction,” he wrote.

He also expressed regret over his inability to overcome the difficulties he described, stating: “Sorry I disappointed you all, I really tried but I couldn’t hold it any longer.”

Bright’s note offered a deeply personal account of the distress he said he had experienced privately, despite appearing happy to those around him. He also called for people to take others’ struggles seriously rather than dismissing their attempts to seek help.

“The first time I tried sharing my pain, it was seen as a joke,” he wrote.

In the note, Bright addressed his parents, siblings, friends and members of his church community, expressing remorse over the impact of his struggles on those close to him.

He described finding it difficult to forgive himself, writing: “Personally I couldn’t forgive myself.”

He also urged people to approach others with greater understanding, particularly when they might be dealing with addiction or emotional difficulties that are not immediately apparent.

“Let’s learn to listen rather than to judge,” he wrote.

Bright’s message suggested that he had struggled to communicate the extent of his distress. He encouraged people to look beyond outward appearances and make an effort to understand what their loved ones might be experiencing.

Bright devoted part of the note to his family, asking his father to listen carefully to his children and create room for them to speak about their challenges.

“To my bros, cousins I’m very sorry okay the happy joy, the happy bright was not as happy as he showed y’all,” he wrote.

He also spoke affectionately about Wesley Methodist Cathedral, describing it as a place where he regularly found peace. He addressed church leaders and recalled his connection with the congregation, where he had been known as a former MTN employee who danced and entertained older members.

The note referred to financial difficulties, personal mistakes and health concerns that Bright said he had experienced. However, the full circumstances surrounding those challenges have not been independently established.

Beyond his personal reflections, Bright appealed for greater awareness of depression and the importance of providing people with opportunities to discuss their struggles without fear of ridicule.

“My motive for this note was not for you to judge me but rather announce to the world that depression can happen to young and old as well,” he wrote.

He also encouraged families and communities to introduce counselling sessions and to listen more attentively when people speak about their problems.
