John Ayiku Ocansey has been reappointed as the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Corporate Services at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), following a formal directive from the Presidency.
The appointment was confirmed in an official statement issued on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
According to the statement, the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama has reappointed Mr. Ocansey to serve in the role with immediate effect.
This development follows an earlier period of uncertainty surrounding Mr. Ocansey’s role.
The Energy Minister, John Jinapor issued a clarification regarding the appointment of John Ayiku Ocansey as the Acting Deputy Managing Director.
In a statement dated Saturday, March 18, MoE referred to its previous letter, dated 17th March 2025, which introduced Mr Ocansey to the position.
The statement read: “We refer to our letter with Ref. No. Z.A.6/247/01ª dated 17th March 2025 introducing Mr John Ayiku Ocansey as the new Acting Deputy Managing Director of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).”
However, the Ministry noted that the earlier communication had been inadvertently issued and has since been withdrawn.
The statement continued, “We wish to inform you that our earlier letter was inadvertently written and hereby wish to withdraw same.”
The latest appointment by the President now settles any ambiguity, making Mr. Ocansey’s reappointment official and substantive.
Mr. Ocansey, who has previously held key leadership roles within ECG, is expected to bring his experience and institutional knowledge to bear as the company navigates ongoing reforms and operational enhancements.
