The Ministry of Transport has undertaken a working visit to key transport and logistics facilities to assess measures aimed at improving cargo evacuation and reducing congestion.
The visit covered the Meridian Port Services (MPS), the Volta Lake Transport Company and the railway station at Mpakadan.
The engagement focused on accelerating the clearance and evacuation of cargo while exploring ways to strengthen the use of Ghana’s inland water and rail networks to facilitate the efficient movement of goods from the ports to inland destinations.
The team led by the sector Minister Joseph Nikpe and his Deputy Dorcass Affo-Toffey said improving the integration of the country’s various transport networks is critical to easing pressure on the road network, reducing delays and enhancing the movement of goods across the country.
The working visit forms part of efforts to develop a more coordinated and efficient transport system capable of supporting trade and contributing to Ghana’s broader economic growth.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building an integrated transport network that leverages road, rail and inland water transport to improve logistics efficiency and support businesses engaged in domestic and international trade.
