The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has supported the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission’s (GAEC) 2026 Cancer Awareness Campaign as part of efforts to promote public education and encourage early screening for breast and prostate cancer.
The campaign, organised by the Radiological and Medical Sciences Research Institute (RAMSRI) of GAEC in collaboration with the GAEC Hospital, is being held under the theme “Your Health Matters, Get Screened.”
The initiative seeks to raise public awareness about cancer prevention and the importance of early detection, particularly for breast and prostate cancers.
The campaign comes amid growing concern over Ghana’s cancer burden.
The country recorded an estimated 27,260 new cancer cases and 17,662 cancer-related deaths in 2024, highlighting the need for increased awareness, prevention and access to screening.
The NPA said its support for the campaign forms part of its broader commitment to initiatives that promote public health, community well-being and national development.
The NAPET Ladies Association is also expected to play a key role in the campaign’s outreach activities, helping to increase public awareness and encourage people to undertake regular screening.
Organisers are urging members of the public to take their health seriously and make early screening a priority, particularly because early detection can improve the prospects of effective cancer treatment.
As the campaign progresses, the organisers are maintaining a simple but urgent message to the public: “Your Health Matters, Get Screened.”
