President John Dramani Mahama has appointed the brilliant economist and public sector leader, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, as the Acting Government Statistician.
The announcement, made today by the Presidency, positions Dr. Iddrisu at the helm of Ghana’s statistical apparatus pending consultations with the Council of State.
His appointment is already being met with widespread acclaim from economic experts, academics, and public policy analysts who describe him as “a visionary leader with an unmatched command of macroeconomic strategy.”
Currently serving as the Director of the Economic Strategy and Research Division at the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Iddrisu brings a wealth of experience in national economic planning, forecasting, and policy coordination.
His analytical prowess has shaped everything from Ghana’s Macroeconomic Outlook Report to core elements of the National Budget and Economic Policy.
From spearheading long-term forecasting as Director of the Economic Research and Forecasting Division to steering productivity analysis in the Real Sector Division, Dr. Iddrisu’s track record within the Ministry has been nothing short of transformative.
Beyond his leadership roles, Dr. Iddrisu is known for his academic depth. A part-time lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Accra, he holds a PhD in International Development Studies from Japan’s prestigious National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, a Master’s in Public Administration from the London School of Economics, and multiple degrees in Statistics and Economics from the University of Ghana.
