The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has been welcomed to Howard University in Washington, D.C., as part of activities marking the Millennium Excellence Awards Week.
The Asantehene arrived at the university on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, where he was received by the President of Howard University, Dr Wayne A. I. Frederick; the university’s Provost, Dr Anthony Wutoh; and Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Hon. Victor Smith.
The visit formed part of Otumfuo’s engagements in the United States during the Millennium Excellence Awards Week.
Following his arrival, the Asantehene held a private meeting with the university’s leadership and Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States ahead of his scheduled Royal Guest Lecture.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Asantehene and the university officials to discuss matters of mutual interest ahead of the lecture.
The Royal Guest Lecture is expected to bring together members of the Howard University community, diplomats, academics and other invited guests for an engagement with the Asantehene.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s visit to Howard University forms part of his broader international engagements aimed at promoting Ghanaian heritage, education, leadership and cultural diplomacy.
