Health Ministry extends deadline for health professionals to August 31

The Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for health professionals recently recruited and posted to various districts to report to their assigned places of work to August 31, 2026.

The Ministry said the extension constitutes the final notice to all affected professionals and urged those who are yet to report to take advantage of the additional time.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Tony Goodman, on August 24, 2026, the Ministry explained that a number of successful applicants had already reported to their assigned facilities, completed interviews and screening, and commenced the process of being captured onto the government’s payroll.

Some of the professionals, the Ministry noted, had already been mechanised and were receiving their salaries.

The Ministry also sought to clarify the recruitment, posting and salary payment processes amid what it described as misleading information circulating about the exercise.

According to the Ministry, the process begins with the receipt of Financial Clearance from the Ministry of Finance, after which the recruitment portal was opened for eligible applicants.

Applicants then apply for posting to their preferred districts and undergo interviews in their respective districts. Successful applicants accept their postings and report to their assigned facilities.

The facilities subsequently confirm their assumption of duty and submitted the necessary documentation to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) or other relevant agencies.

An appointment letter was then generated by the relevant agency to enable the professional to complete the processes required for salary input.

After the salary input process was completed, the worker’s salary was validated by the facility before payment was effected by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).

The Ministry stressed that every recruited professional is required to complete these processes before salary payment can be made.

It said the procedure was necessary to ensure that only duly recruited and verified professionals were paid, while preventing payments for work not done and the creation of ghost names on the government payroll.

The Ministry has therefore directed all Human Resource Directors and relevant officers to expedite the necessary processes to ensure that eligible professionals who have reported for duty are promptly captured and processed for salary payment.

Directors and Managers have also been instructed to use the September data-entry window to mechanise all professionals who have assumed duty.

The Ministry warned that professionals who fail to report to their assigned facilities by August 31 without an approved and justifiable reason will have their names removed from the recruitment and posting system.

Such vacancies, it said, will subsequently be filled through a mop-up exercise scheduled for the first week of September.

The Ministry of Health has therefore urged all affected professionals to use the final extension to report to their assigned facilities within the stipulated period and complete the necessary processes for their employment and salary payment.
