The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has unveiled a GH¢9.5 million financial and incentive package for clubs ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The package was announced by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku during the Association’s 32nd Ordinary Congress held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday, August 20.
Under the arrangement, each of the 18 Premier League clubs will receive GH¢1 million, while the eventual league champions will pocket GH¢3 million as prize money.
The GFA says the support is intended to provide clubs with additional resources as they prepare for the new campaign and work to improve their competitiveness.
The Association also honoured Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare after naming him the Black Stars’ Best Domestic Player for his contribution to Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Asare, the only Ghana Premier League player selected for Ghana’s World Cup squad, featured in three of the Black Stars’ four matches and kept a clean sheet in the goalless draw against England.
He will receive a new vehicle valued at US$38,000 in recognition of the achievement.
Meanwhile, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has urged football stakeholders to look beyond financial incentives and focus on rebuilding Ghana’s domestic football industry.
According to the Minister, Ghana has the talent, football history, clubs, supporters and corporate community needed to build a stronger football ecosystem, but these resources must be better harnessed.
He called for greater investment in player development, stronger clubs and efforts to make the Ghana Premier League more appealing to fans.
Adams also stressed the need to develop household-name players capable of driving interest in the domestic competition, citing former league stars such as Charles Taylor, Stephen Oduro and Don Bortey.
He further warned stakeholders against taking supporters for granted, noting that the local league faces intense competition from the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League and an expanding digital entertainment space.
The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League is scheduled to begin on September 5, 2026, with 18 clubs set to compete for the title and the enhanced financial rewards.
