A 22-year-old man, Christian Owusu, has been sentenced to a minimum of 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after being convicted of robbery in Kumasi.
The Ashanti Central District Police Command secured Owusu’s conviction and sentencing on Friday, August 14, 2026, following investigations into a robbery reported on July 21.
According to the police in a statement, the victim reported the incident at about 5:00 p.m. on July 21, stating that she had been attacked earlier that day while heading towards Konkromase Township.
The police said, “On 21 July 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., the victim reported that at about 12:21 p.m. on the same day, while she was heading towards Konkromase Township, she was threatened and robbed of her handbag, which contained her personal effects and cash.”
Investigations subsequently led to the arrest of Owusu on August 4, 2026.
He was arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on August 7, where he was charged with robbery. The case was presided over by His Lordship Kwaku Baah Frimpong.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea.
Before the court passed sentence, Owusu pleaded for forgiveness. However, after considering his plea, the court handed him a minimum 10-year prison sentence with hard labour.
The police said, “Before sentence was passed, Christian Owusu pleaded with the court for forgiveness. The court considered his plea and sentenced him to a minimum term of ten (10) years’ imprisonment with hard labour (IHL).”
Owusu was subsequently handed over to authorities at the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving his sentence.
The police said the conviction formed part of efforts to deal with robbery and other criminal activities in the Ashanti Region.
