The Concerned Youth of Tema has condemned the demolition of a project being undertaken by TDC Ghana Limited at Community One, Site 3, in Tema, calling on the government to intervene to prevent further demolition.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the group described the exercise carried out by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) as unfortunate and counterproductive.
According to the group, the TDC Ghana Limited project forms part of efforts to deliver decent and affordable housing while creating employment opportunities for residents of Tema.
The Concerned Youth of Tema said the project is expected to create more than 400 direct and indirect jobs for young people and residents in the area, arguing that its demolition could negatively affect livelihoods and the economic prospects of the community.
The group said it had sighted a letter from TMA to TDC Ghana Limited, referenced PPD/TMA/SW/20264/Vol.1, requesting the land documents, building and development permits, as well as a hoarding permit for the project.
It argued that since TMA and TDC Ghana Limited are both government institutions, the matter should have been resolved through engagement between the two agencies rather than demolition.
The group specifically called for the Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, Mr Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, and other relevant stakeholders to have been engaged to address any administrative or permitting concerns.
It also expressed concern that the site carried a signpost identifying the development as “A Project Undertaken by the Government of Ghana.”
The Concerned Youth of Tema said the demolition of a government project by another government institution sends the wrong signal and undermines efforts to develop Tema.
The group is therefore calling on the Minister of Local Government, the Ministry of Works and Housing, and the Office of the President to urgently intervene to halt further demolition and ensure that the project is allowed to continue.
It urged TDC Ghana Limited and TMA to resolve their differences and work together in the interest of job creation, housing delivery and the broader development of Tema.
The Concerned Youth of Tema said it remained committed to the peace and development of the city and would continue to speak against actions it believes could undermine the welfare and economic prospects of residents.
