The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has alleged that former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, was not immediately taken into prison custody upon her return to Ghana from the United States.

Addressing a press conference, the MP claimed that Ms. Tamakloe, who reportedly arrived in Ghana on June 9, was only admitted into prison custody on June 24, following what he described as sustained public pressure.

According to him, information available to the Minority indicates that she was not under the custody of the Ghana Prisons Service during the 15-day period between her arrival and her eventual incarceration.

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah further alleged that the former MASLOC boss is currently being held at a female section of a medium-security prison facility, although he declined to disclose its exact location.

He explained that the decision not to reveal the facility was to prevent authorities from justifying a possible transfer on security grounds.

The Manhyia South MP, who also serves on Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, additionally claimed that Ms. Tamakloe initially entered custody under protest.

He alleged that she had been assured by certain individuals that efforts were underway to challenge or overturn the court’s decision, and that steps would be taken to prevent her imprisonment.

According to him, she was reportedly given assurances that she could regain her freedom either through a favourable court ruling or once public attention on the case diminished.

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah stated that the Minority would continue to monitor the situation closely and keep the public informed of further developments.
