Abutia Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in the Ho West Constituency of the Volta Region has received a GHS300,000 donation to support the construction of a modern toilet facility for its girls’ dormitory, aimed at improving sanitation and the welfare of students.

The cheque was presented by the Member of Parliament for Ho West, Emmanuel Bedzrah who secured the support through the Volta River Authority (VRA) following an appeal by the school over inadequate sanitation facilities for female students.

Speaking during the presentation, the MP explained that the intervention was in response to concerns raised by school authorities regarding the challenges female students face due to the lack of adequate toilet facilities.

He noted that, in his capacity as Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Energy, he engaged the management of the Volta River Authority, which responded positively by providing funding for the project.

According to him, the construction of the facility will significantly improve sanitation standards at the school, promote the health and wellbeing of students, and provide a safer and more dignified living environment for female boarders.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Paramount Chief of the Abutia Traditional Area, Togbega Abutia Kodzo Gidi V, and members of his traditional council, as well as party executives, staff of the MP’s office, the Assembly Member for the area, and other stakeholders.

In addition to the cheque presentation, the MP donated 500 mono desks to the school to help address its furniture deficit and improve conditions for teaching and learning.

He said the donation forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance both the academic and residential environment of students and ensure they have access to the facilities needed to excel in their studies.

The MP expressed appreciation to the management of the Volta River Authority for its swift response and support for the project, describing the intervention as a significant contribution to educational development in the constituency.

He reaffirmed his commitment to working with stakeholders to improve educational infrastructure and create conducive learning environments that empower students and prepare them for the future.
