Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has met members of the Ghanaian community in Canada, conveying warm greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and outlining key government policies and development initiatives aimed at improving living standards and strengthening the economy.

She noted that government programmes are delivering tangible benefits across sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and social protection.

The Vice President highlighted ongoing efforts under the government’s “Reset Agenda,” particularly measures aimed at improving macroeconomic stability through inflation control, interest rate reduction, and broader economic consolidation.

She also underscored the 24-Hour Economy programme, which is designed to boost productivity, expand job opportunities, and promote enterprise development across the country.

On infrastructure, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang referenced the “Big Push” programme, a major road investment initiative intended to improve connectivity, facilitate trade, and enhance access to markets and essential services nationwide.

In the agricultural sector, she emphasized government interventions aimed at promoting value addition and industrialisation, including the Feed Ghana programme and Farmer Service Centres, which are expected to support productivity and strengthen food systems.

The Vice President also outlined social sector policies, including the No-Fees Stress policy in education, the MahamaCares initiative, and the Free Primary Healthcare programme, all aimed at expanding access to essential services.

She further explained plans for the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank, which is intended to provide accessible financial support to women entrepreneurs who are often underserved by traditional banking systems.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed government’s commitment to inclusive development, stating that the various initiatives are designed to improve livelihoods both at home and abroad while building a stronger and more equitable Ghana.
