President John Dramani Mahama says the government is prepared to collaborate with vehicle manufacturers, banks and private-sector players to develop long-term financing arrangements that will make locally assembled vehicles more affordable and accessible to Ghanaian workers.
He said the proposed financing arrangements could enable workers to acquire locally assembled vehicles and repay the cost gradually through deductions from their salaries.
President Mahama made the remarks at the opening of the third phase of the Zonda Tec Ghana Limited assembly plant.
According to him, expanding local vehicle assembly must be complemented by appropriate financial instruments that allow more Ghanaians to afford vehicles manufactured locally.
He said collaboration among government, vehicle manufacturers and financial institutions would be important in creating sustainable financing schemes that support both the local automotive industry and Ghanaian consumers.
The initiative is expected to help strengthen demand for locally assembled vehicles while supporting the growth of Ghana’s automotive manufacturing sector.
