The Electricity Company of Ghana (Electricity Company of Ghana) is set to begin publishing regular updates on scheduled power interruptions to improve public awareness and planning as the country continues to experience supply challenges.
The move comes in the wake of recent nationwide outages triggered by disruptions to the power system following the fire outbreak at the GRIDCo substation near the Akosombo Dam, which damaged critical infrastructure and affected electricity evacuation capacity.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, April 27, 2026, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, said the directive is part of efforts to improve transparency in the management of the current situation.
“I’ve also directed the MD for the Electricity Company of Ghana to provide regular and timely updates to the public on areas that will be affected,” he stated.
He explained that although restoration efforts are ongoing, the power situation remains fluid, making consistent communication necessary to help consumers adjust accordingly.
The Minister added that the new update system will ensure Ghanaians are better informed as engineers work to stabilise the national grid and restore normal supply conditions.
