Seven armed assailants have been killed after the Ghana Armed Forces repelled an attack on a military-escorted civilian convoy in Binduri in the Upper East Region.

In a statement, the Ghana Armed Forces said the incident occurred on Monday, April 27, 2026, when unknown gunmen ambushed a convoy transporting civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga.

“In the process the military successfully repulsed the attack on the convoy resulting in the death of 7 assailants,” the statement said.

The convoy, which was escorting about 140 civilians, came under heavy gunfire during the attack.

“A Ghana Armed Forces escort convoy protecting 140 civilians was attacked this morning, Monday 27 April 2026 at Binduri by unknown elements. The convoy from Bawku towards Bolga was shot at several times resulting in the death of 3 of the civilians being escorted and injuring one,” it added.

Following the incident, security forces recovered weapons and ammunition and arrested several suspects believed to be connected to the attack.

“In pursuit, the military discovered and retrieved from an escapee who went to a mosque, a G3 automatic rifle, 2 filled magazines of 20 rounds each and 176 rounds of additional ammunition. Ten other suspects were arrested and are assisting with investigations,” the statement noted.

The Armed Forces has urged the public to avoid interfering with security operations and expressed condolences to families of the victims.
