Seven persons have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in connection with a highway robbery on the Tamale–Buipe road last year, during which a member of the Council of State was attacked.
This was confirmed by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, duing a media briefing on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
The suspects — Rashida Yussif, Aaron Abaana, Wilson Abasong, Muntaru Iddrisu, Aminu Zibrilla, Innusa Sumaila and Haruna Safianu — were picked up on January 11, 2026, following investigations into the July 21, 2025 incident.
According to the police, the victim was ambushed by armed attackers while travelling on the highway and robbed of cash and personal items, including mobile phones, wristwatches, laptops and other valuables. Investigations, she noted, are still ongoing.
COP Donkor further revealed that in a separate intelligence-led operation, five additional suspects connected to a robbery at Nkasei in the Ahafo Region were arrested on January 16, 2026.
The suspects — Muta Kofi, Mahamadu Sajoe, also known as Salifu, Shaibu Issah, Abdul Suleman and Bukari Sule, alias Taylor — are linked to an attack on December 2, 2025, when armed assailants blocked the Goaso–Tepa road and robbed road users.
The CID Director-General urged the public to remain alert, safeguard their personal security and avoid disclosing sensitive information to strangers, as police intensify efforts to curb criminal activity nationwide.
