The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old man, Evans Puplampu, for allegedly causing fear and panic through a viral social media video in which he posed as a bandit and issued threatening remarks.
The video, which circulated widely on TikTok, showed the suspect with his face covered under the caption: “We are starting from Ghana churches.” The post quickly gained attention and sparked concern among members of the public.
According to the Police, the arrest followed sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance operations that led officers to the suspect’s location at Ashaiman Community 22 on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to being the person in the video. He explained that the act was inspired by a trending social media pose and insisted it was done in jest.
“He stated that he had copied a similar trending pose on social media for fun and did not intend to cause harm or panic,” police sources said.
A Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone believed to have been used in creating and sharing the video has been retrieved and retained as evidence.
The Police further indicated that the suspect is currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be put before court to face justice.
Authorities have cautioned the public against engaging in acts or content that may incite fear or disturb public peace, especially on social media platforms.
