Campaign spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong, Kwasi Kwarteng, has confirmed that the former Assin Central MP has officially picked up nomination forms to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries slated for January 31, 2026.
He confirmed this in a Facebook post shared on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, saying, “Official Update: Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has officially picked nomination forms to contest in the 2026 NPP flagbearership race.”
He emphasised that Mr. Agyapong’s decision marks a bold and early step in the race to lead both the NPP and the country into a new era, describing him as a proven leader with unmatched commitment to the party’s grassroots and national development.
Report indicates that a delegation party stalwarts, including Members of Parliament and former government officials, joined the campaign team to pick up the forms on Mr. Agyapong’s behalf.
These included Obuasi West MP Kwaku Kwarteng, Tema West’s Charles Forson, Nhyiaeso MP Stephen Amoah, Hemang Lower Denkyira MP Lawrence Agyinsam, and Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, former Deputy Minister for Finance — all of whom have declared support for Mr. Agyapong’s candidacy.
The spokesperson added that Mr. Agyapong’s strong second-place showing in the 2024 NPP presidential primary and his continued popularity within the party positioned him as a top contender ahead of the 2026 race.
Per the party’s election guidelines, nominations opened on July 29 and close on August 28, 2025, with filing fees set at GH¢500,000 and nomination fees at GH¢100,000.
Vetting will be conducted from September 15 to 22, followed by the publication of qualified aspirants on October 8, and balloting on October 10.
