The Volta Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the suspected ritual murder of 25-year-old mason, Nelson Anyena, at Mafi Adidome in the Central Tongu District.
The suspects — five men and one woman — were picked up from the communities of Blorkorfe and Awakpedome following extensive investigations by police, supported by community cooperation. The arrests were made in two separate phases.
The first trio apprehended included 21-year-old unemployed woman, Augustina Fiawoyife; herbalist, Wisdom Hedidor, 31; and 31-year-old kente weaver, Courage Bedzo.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of three more individuals: fetish priest Gblor Noah, 42; security guard Yohannes Gblor, 27; and lotto writer John Gblor, 40.
According to police, the incident occurred on December 4, 2024, the same day Anyena arrived in Mafi-Adidome to live with his wife.
Investigators say Augustina, who was in a relationship with Wisdom Hedidor, was instructed by her boyfriend to lure the victim into a trap.
That evening, she reportedly called the victim and invited him for a romantic encounter.
When Anyena arrived at the agreed location, he was allegedly attacked and strangled by Wisdom Hedidor and Courage Bedzo at a place called Dzidefo.
The body was then offered to fetish priest Gblor Noah, who is said to have previously approached the suspects with a request for a human corpse for ritual purposes.
After confirming the killing, the priest and his two brothers reportedly paid the suspects GH¢7,000 and transported the body to a shrine in Blorkorfe.
Acting on intelligence, the police obtained an exhumation order from the Ho Magistrate Court on July 3, 2025.
The order was carried out on July 7 by a team led by Volta Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Omari Mic Boakye, alongside crime scene experts and environmental health officials.
During the operation, the body of Nelson Anyena was retrieved from beneath a shrine belonging to fetish priest Noah Gblor.
Shockingly, two more bodies — yet to be identified — were discovered buried at the same location.
All three bodies have been transported to the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra for autopsy and DNA profiling.
The suspects are currently on remand in police and prison custody and are expected to reappear in court on August 8, 2025, as investigations continue.
The Volta Regional Police Command has commended the public for their cooperation in unraveling the case and urged the victim’s family and residents of Mafi Adidome to remain calm as justice takes its course.
