The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has commended the Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Edmond Kombat, and the refinery’s management team for their leadership and commitment in restoring the facility’s operational capacity during the unveiling of the refurbished Crude Distillation Unit (CDU).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Jinapor described the successful refurbishment of the CDU as a major milestone in the government’s efforts to revive Ghana’s premier oil refinery and strengthen the country’s energy security.
The Minister praised the TOR management for steering the refinery through a challenging recovery process, noting that the rehabilitation of the CDU demonstrates the team’s technical expertise, resilience, and dedication to restoring confidence in the state-owned refinery.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting TOR’s operational and financial recovery to ensure its long-term sustainability.
The refurbished CDU is expected to significantly improve TOR’s refining operations, increasing domestic production of petroleum products and reducing Ghana’s dependence on imported refined fuels.
The project forms part of broader efforts to modernise the refinery and enhance its efficiency following years of operational setbacks.
Dr. Jinapor expressed confidence that the renewed operations at TOR would contribute to job creation, industrial growth, and improved energy security, while positioning the refinery to play a strategic role in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
