The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in a major intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo-Tema road.
The operation took place at Agomeda Junction on January 11, 2026, around 12:45 a.m., following a tip-off that narcotics were being transported from the Volta Region to Tema.
Two vehicles—a white Toyota Highlander and a black Mitsubishi Pajero—were stopped, and drivers Isaac Odoi, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39, were arrested.

A total of 872 parcels were recovered from the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were found in the Toyota Highlander.
The suspects are in police custody and assisting with investigations, including searches at their residences. Samples of the substances will be tested at the Forensic Crime Laboratory, and preparations are underway to take the suspects to court.

ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for Tema Police, said the command remains committed to disrupting drug trafficking and urged the public to provide credible information to support security efforts.
