The Western Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals accused of impersonating officials from the Ghana Gold Board Taskforce in an extortion scheme targeting gold dealers.
The suspects, Foster Delord, 40, and Prince Worvi, 38—both of whom claim to be ex-military personnel—were taken into custody after reports emerged that they had been moving from shop to shop in Tarkwa, posing as Taskforce operatives to intimidate and extract money from unsuspecting dealers.
Acting on a tip-off, police tracked down the duo and conducted a search, during which officers retrieved incriminating items including a set of handcuffs, a pepper spray canister, an electric shock device, a camouflage uniform, and GH₵500 believed to have been collected from victims.
The two men have been arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court and remanded into police custody as investigations continue.
The Police have issued a warning to the public, particularly those in the mining and gold trading sector, to be wary of individuals claiming to represent state institutions.
Authorities emphasize the importance of demanding official identification and verifying credentials before cooperating with such individuals.
Law enforcement further encouraged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activity involving impersonation or extortion to the nearest police station.
