The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced new electricity and water tariffs, effective January 1, 2026, following its multi-year review for 2026–2030.
Electricity rates will rise by 9.86% across all customer categories, while water tariffs will increase by 15.92%.
PURC said the adjustments are necessary to meet utility investment needs, maintain industry competitiveness, and protect consumers. The review also accounts for exchange rate fluctuations, inflation, fuel costs, and generation mix.
Mini-grid tariffs have been introduced to support electricity access in island communities, with costs absorbed into the Volta River Authority’s revenue. The Commission emphasized that rates will undergo quarterly reviews to reflect factors beyond utility control.
PURC noted that extensive stakeholder consultations and public hearings informed the decision and pledged continued monitoring of service providers to ensure efficiency and compliance.
