The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a 1.14% upward adjustment in electricity tariffs across all consumer categories, effective October 1, 2025. Water tariffs will remain unchanged during the same period.
According to a statement, the decision was made under the Commission’s Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism, which tracks key economic indicators such as the Ghana cedi–US dollar exchange rate, domestic inflation, the cost of natural gas, and the hydro-thermal generation mix.
The Commission noted that these adjustments are essential to maintain the real value of tariffs and sustain the financial health of utility providers to guarantee continuous and reliable service.
Under the new rates, lifeline residential consumers (0–30 kWh) will now pay 80.43 pesewas per unit, up from 79.53 pesewas. Consumers using over 301 kWh will pay GH¢2.40 per unit, up from GH¢2.38, while non-residential and industrial users will also see marginal increases.
Water charges, however, remain at current levels, with residential consumers using up to 5m³ continuing to pay GH¢5.28 per cubic metre.
The PURC assured the public that it will continue to monitor utility providers to ensure efficiency, accountability, and value for money in service delivery.
