Former President Nana Akufo-Addo has mourned the tragic deaths of eight individuals who perished in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The crash claimed the lives of several prominent figures, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed. Five military personnel also died in the incident.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Akufo-Addo described the accident as a national tragedy that has left the country “profoundly shocked and saddened.”
He noted that he had spoken with President John Dramani Mahama and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia to convey his condolences.
The former president also extended sympathies to the Ghana Air Force and the bereaved families, recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of the fallen officers.
“I console with our gallant men of the Ghana Air Force at this concerning time and salute their indispensable role in the public life of our country,” he said.
“May they find peaceful rest in the Bosom of the Almighty, until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again,” he concluded.
