Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang joined the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) leaders, members and sympathisers to launch six publications documenting the party’s history, achievements, challenges and lessons.
The Vice President represented President John Dramani Mahama at the launch, which brought together party stakeholders to reflect on the NDC’s political journey and preserve key records of its development.
The six publications compile important historical materials, including the party’s constitutions, electoral manifestos and documentary records covering significant periods of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
The NDC, since its formation, has been guided by social democratic principles, with an emphasis on social justice, equal opportunity and development that benefits vulnerable sections of society.
In remarks at the event, Prof Opoku-Agyemang commended the party’s National Chairman, the Functional Executive Committee, Mr Israel Yao Dzantor, and all those whose contributions made the publications possible.
She stressed the importance of maintaining accurate and accessible institutional records, noting that proper documentation should capture decisions, the circumstances that informed them, the perspectives considered and the outcomes.
Such records, she said, help future generations understand how institutions evolve and why particular decisions are made.
The Vice President expressed hope that the initiative would encourage a stronger culture of documentation across Ghanaian institutions and help ensure that the country’s history is properly preserved for posterity.
