Former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, is in the custody of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Accra after his arrest on Sunday, June 29, 2025, in connection with an ongoing probe into alleged financial and asset-related misconduct.
Jumah was arrested by police at a private residence in Kumasi, where he was reportedly celebrating his birthday.
Providing an update to the media on Monday, June 30, the Director-General of the CID, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, confirmed that three of the missing vehicles have been successfully retrieved.
She further explained that arrest warrants were duly secured to facilitate the operation, which has so far led to the recovery of three vehicles.
“Mr. Maxwell Kofi Juma was arrested based on a complaint that was, or a petition that was submitted to us by the GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited. We received a petition to the effect that some vehicles which were the property of that company had been stolen by the said Maxwell Kofi Juma. Warrants for arrest was properly secured and that was the basis for which he was arrested and he’s in our custody at the CID headquarters and is assisting with investigation.”
“I must mention that this afternoon we have retrieved three vehicles, so the said vehicles that were stolen by him have been retrieved. So he’s really assisting us with the investigation and then we will take it up from there,” DCOP Donkor said.
The police, she noted, are continuing investigations to establish the full facts and recover any other assets if necessary.
The recovery comes weeks after a failed attempt by security operatives to seize the vehicles from Jumah’s residence on May 15, when he was reportedly unavailable.
Police say investigations are ongoing to locate any other vehicles or assets belonging to the company that may still be missing.
Jumah, is assisting police with investigations while remaining in custody at the CID headquarters.
Authorities have assured the public that all necessary legal processes are being followed to ensure accountability and the protection of state assets.
