The Ghana Police Service is probing the violent incident that took place during the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru, Central Region, on February 19, 2026.
Reports indicate that a confrontation between students of Awutu Obrachire Senior High Technical School and Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) escalated into a physical attack, leaving one Obrachire student critically injured. The student was reportedly struck with sticks and hit with stones before bystanders intervened. He is currently receiving medical care and fighting for his life.
Footage of the altercation circulated widely on social media, capturing the chaos and the injured student surrounded by a crowd.
Commenting on the incident, the Ghana Police Service posted on X: “We have sighted a viral video in which a group of people are seen pelting stones at a student. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further developments will be communicated in due course. The Service strongly condemns the violence and assures the public that all perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice.”
Authorities have pledged to ensure those responsible are prosecuted. Education stakeholders and local residents are calling for enhanced security and closer supervision at inter-school sporting events to prevent such incidents in the future.
