The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has directed Aschal Investment Limited to immediately return to site and complete the 37-kilometre Wa–Bulenga Road project within the agreed schedule.
The directive follows concerns over the contractor’s prolonged absence from the project site and the quality of work executed so far.
Mr Agbodza issued the order during an inspection of the Wa–Bulenga–Yaala Road, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work and the contractor’s failure to return to site for more than a year.
The contract was awarded in 2024, but the Minister said the prolonged delay was unacceptable, particularly because the project had already been awarded with a defined completion schedule.
He warned that government would take a firm stance against contractors who fail to mobilise to project sites or deliver work according to agreed specifications and standards.
Mr Agbodza also expressed concern about defects observed on sections of the road already completed, warning that some portions risk deteriorating within a short period if corrective measures are not undertaken.
He therefore instructed the contractor to return to site without further delay and rectify all identified defects.
“Tell the contractor to come back to site immediately and remedy all those things. The thing is already failing,” he said, stressing that the defects were evident and required urgent attention.
The Roads Minister reiterated that government would not compromise on the quality of road infrastructure being delivered to Ghanaians.
“We have no appetite for substandard work,” he added.
Government is expected to closely monitor the contractor’s return to site and subsequent progress to ensure the Wa–Bulenga Road project is completed to the required standards and within the agreed timeframe.
