The ambitions of two key government officials to lead the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in executive positions to the 2028 general elections have been truncated following a high court ruling that uphelp the party’s decision for all government appointees to resign their positions for party postions.
The court rulling has dsiqualified the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority(NYA), Osman Ayariga from contesting for the position of National Youth Organizer of the NDC going into the next elections.
In the same vein, the Chief Executive Officer of Micro-finance and Small Loans Centre(MASLOC), Elorm Mensah, has also been disqualified from contesting for the position of Women’s Organiser of the NDC.
The Accra High Court dismissed a suit seeking to prevent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from enforcing its directive requiring Ministers, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), Managing Directors (MDs), and other government appointees to resign from their positions at least six months before contesting the party’s regional and national executive elections.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Sedina Agbamava of the General Jurisdiction Division 8 of the High Court, clears the way for the NDC to implement the directive as part of its approved guidelines for the 2026 internal elections.
The court’s decision effectively affirms the party’s authority to enforce the guidelines adopted by its National Executive Committee (NEC), which require public office holders seeking party executive positions to step down from their government appointments ahead of the elections.
The directive forms part of the NDC’s preparations for its upcoming regional and national executive elections and is intended to regulate participation by government appointees in the party’s internal electoral process.
With the dismissal of the suit, the party is now free to proceed with the implementation of the six-month resignation requirement in accordance with its 2026 election guidelines.
