A man captured in a widely circulated video assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service.
The suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, was picked up on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family residence after the disturbing footage sparked public outrage and triggered widespread calls for immediate action.
According to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the arrest led to further disturbances at the house.

Two of Lamptey’s siblings — Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey — were also apprehended after they allegedly attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of filming and circulating the video. Police intervened quickly, rescued the tenant, and placed her under protection.
Investigators say the assaulted woman fled the scene before officers arrived, and efforts are currently underway to locate her and ensure she receives protection and support.

In a statement signed by CID Public Relations Officer Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, the Police reaffirmed their firm stance against domestic abuse, stating that the Service “remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full rigour of the law.”
The police have encouraged the public to continue reporting incidents of abuse to help safeguard vulnerable individuals.
