Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has taken a swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the opposition party of neglecting the concerns of Ghanaians in favour of its political ambitions.

His comments come after the NPP, during its National Executive Committee and National Council meeting on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, announced the date for its presidential primaries.

Reacting to this in a Facebook post, Dr. Boamah slammed the party for what he described as an unrepentant focus on electoral victory rather than national recovery.

The Defence Minister’s remarks underscore growing political tension as parties begin early preparations for the 2028 general elections.

His comments also reflect a broader critique from many Ghanaians who have repeatedly accused the NPP of mishandling the economy during its time in government.

NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, in announcing the primary date—January 31, 2026—emphasized that the process would be conducted within constitutional bounds and that full guidelines for aspirants would be released in the coming weeks.

However, according to Dr. Boamah, the timing and posture of the NPP only signal a lack of remorse and responsibility.

He said, “The Alternative Is…
——————————The Competent Economic Management Team did enough damage 💔 to pensioners, people with disabilities, women, the youth and Ghanaians in general. In 6 short months, instead of apologizing SINCERELY for their misdeeds, they’re focusing on the next elections. NPP thinks only about themselves and the next elections. The Alternative Is…”
