The legal team representing former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has strongly denied claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that assets valued at more than GH¢100 million and US$100,000 linked to their client have been seized.
The OSP in a statement on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, noted that some assets of Dr. Abdul-Hamid have been seized amid the ongoing corruption case
However, in a statement dated Wednesday, November 5, 2025, HAY & PARTNERS AT LAW, counsel for Dr. Abdul-Hamid, described the OSP’s assertions as “false, misleading, and injurious,” insisting that no property belonging to or associated with their client has been traced, identified, or seized.
“The attention of our client, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has been drawn to a recent publication by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on its official Facebook page, purporting that assets valued at over GHS 100 million and allegedly linked to him have been seized as part of ongoing investigations and prosecution in the NPA case,” the statement said.
“As counsel for Dr. Abdul-Hamid, we wish to place on record, emphatically and without ambiguity, that no assets or businesses belonging to or associated with our client have been identified, traced, or seized by the OSP. Our client owns no such assets, directly or indirectly, and no property worth the stated amount exists anywhere in connection with him,” it added.
The law firm pointed out that the OSP’s own amended charge sheet, filed on October 17, 2025, contains five counts against Dr. Abdul-Hamid, none of which mentions or refers to any assets or businesses purportedly owned by him.
“It is therefore false, misleading, and injurious for the OSP to make public assertions inconsistent with its own court filings in respect of Dr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid,” the statement continued.
The lawyers also cautioned the OSP to respect its constitutional and ethical duties, emphasizing that making public statements that distort ongoing judicial matters undermines the integrity of the prosecutorial office.
According to the lawyers, Dr. Abdul-Hamid has fully cooperated with the OSP throughout the investigation, honoring all invitations and court appearances.
“It is, therefore, deeply regrettable that instead of complying with the orders of the court, including the directive to file its disclosures, the OSP has chosen to engage in public theatrics and false reportage. We advise the OSP to devote its energies to prosecutorial diligence rather than media sensationalism,” the statement concluded.
HAY & PARTNERS further reminded the public that their client remains innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the 1992 Constitution.
